Peridontal diseases are a chronic infectious disease involving tooth-supporting structures (gingiva, periodontal ligament, alveolar bone and cementum) and resulting in inflammatory damage to these structures. At present, peridontal diseases are mainly categorized as gingival disease and periodontitis. Development of periodontal disease

Stage 1: Gingivitis, swollen and bleeding gums occur. 

Stage 2: Periodontal pocket develops with bad breath and fester.

Stage 3: With alveolar resorption, the involved teeth is loose.

Stage 4 : With alveolar bone loss, the tooth falls out.

Prevention and treatment for periodontal diseases

Regarding to periodontal disease prevention, we should cultivate healthy oral habits -- brushing teeth three times daily; gargling after meal; no food before sleeping. Besides, regular tooth scaling is recommended once a year to remove dental plaque and calculus.
