Hamish Williams, a New Zealand professional who has lived and worked in Guangzhou for several years, has relied on Guangdong Clifford Hospital for his family's healthcare needs during that time. When he began experiencing a series of concerning symptoms earlier this year, he returned to the hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Onset of Symptoms
Two weeks before his admission, Hamish began experiencing episodes of dizziness, particularly when standing up or tilting his head back, along with nausea, chest tightness, and heart palpitations. In mid-March, he visited the outpatient department at Guangdong Clifford Hospital for a full evaluation.
Diagnostic testing showed an abnormally slow and irregular heart rate, elevated cholesterol, increased carotid intima-media thickness (IMT), and arrhythmia requiring further evaluation and inpatient management. Given his unstable blood pressure and persistent headaches, he was admitted for treatment.
Care at the Clifford Hosptial
Hamish was admitted to the hospital, where private suites are equipped with amenities such as a sofa, wardrobe, television, and microwave, intended to provide a comfortable setting during recovery.

As an international patient, Hamish had been concerned about a potential language barrier. He found that the medical staff communicated with him directly in English, and the hospital also provided professional interpretation support throughout his stay.
Dr. Ouyang Ping, Director of the VIP Center, together with Dr. Huang Yu, developed an individualized treatment plan involving anti-arrhythmic medication and combination therapy to improve coronary circulation and manage his cholesterol levels. The care team and interpreters explained the purpose, dosage, and cautions of each medication in English, and the hospital's dietary team prepared a low-sugar, low-fat, low-cholesterol meal plan tailored to his condition, incorporating fresh vegetables, lean meat, and whole grains.
Over the course of just over a week of treatment, his dizziness, chest tightness, and headaches gradually subsided.

As his condition improved, Hamish took walks accompanied by nursing staff and made use of the hospital's sky garden and library. He was also able to continue his work remotely from his hospital room during his stay.

Follow-up
Reflecting on his stay, Hamish said: "At Clifford Hospital, I received more than medical treatment — the team made sure I understood every step of my care."
